connecting green square

Sustainable Sydney 2030 establishes Green Square as a leading example of environmental, social and economic sustainability.  It aims to ensure environmental improvement in renewal areas also improve the environmental performance of the City as a whole.

Building on the strengths of adjoining neighbourhoods, Green Square will support residential and business activities and will provide improved public transport connections.

The project shows the potential for preserving a fine detailed streetscape along the currently industrial and under-used Alexandra Canal, and proposes a new park and green links for walking and cycling extending south to Botany Bay and north through Newtown to the harbour.

Green Square will become a leading example of sustainable development and living.

In a specific project, the City worked with State Government agencies on a Transport Management and Accessibility Plan to guide future sustainable development of the Green Square Renewal Area and also guide the provision of transport infrastructure and services by the State Government. Council endorsed the plan in March 2009.
