Directions to create a
green, global and connected city
The Sustainable Sydney 2030 Vision proposes 10 key Directions and a myriad of ‘step change’ actions for the next 20 years. It sets a strategic framework and agenda for the City’s annual Corporate Plans and will drive capital works priorities and work programs for the years to come.
Considerable work has been undertaken to align the City’s Corporate Plan, Financial Plan and city-wide City Plan with the 2030 Vision to ensure these operational documents reflect and carry out the Vision.
Some key actions are already underway, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water use in the City’s parks, pools and properties, and start up of design and construction of key components of what will become our Liveable Green Network, such as the King Street and Bourke Street cycleways.
The City has also begun the detailed work on other actions in the vision, such as our Glebe affordable housing project with the State Government and planning for Green Transformers to reduce reliance on coal-fired power generation.
The City has a critical role in implementing the Strategy and is also advancing key partnerships with community, business and other levels of government to help achieve sustainable change. One example is establishing the City of Sydney Aboriginal Advisory Group to advise as we develop the Eora Journey Indigenous trail from Mrs Macquarie Chair to Redfern.
The City has committed to ongoing consultation with all stakeholders as a foundation principal for individual projects which flow out of the vision.
