what you told us

Green, global and connected

The Ten Strategic Directions, Objectives and 186 actions that Council is now implementing as Sustainable Sydney 2030 were informed by 18 months of consultation and engagement.

The consultation undertaken was the most extensive undertaken in the City’s history.  The City held 41 events and consultation forums during the development of the 2030 Vision.

12,000 people were directly consulted, the 2030 website received more than 15,000 website visitors and 200 comments, and more than 2,000 comments were received through the Future Phone.

The City’s residential and business communities told us that they wanted an environmentally sustainable city; one in which people can feel at home and yet connected to the world; a city whose thriving economy positions it as a global centre of excellence, while supporting a rich and creative culture.

Forum Reports

During 2007 the City of Sydney consulted the community widely on their thoughts and ideas for the city they want to see in 2030.

Ideas and key outcomes from these meetings and workshops were documented and are available below.

Community Projects

The City consulted with a range of community groups who participated in projects to demonstrate their vision for the future of Sydney.

In July the City of Sydney’s Sustainable Sydney 2030 project headed to eight primary schools to ask children what they hoped for Sydney’s future. Click here to read more.

Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander people from across the City of Sydney gathered at three workshops in different locations and more than 200 people were interviewed or surveyed by a special 2030 consultation team. Click here to read more.
