Archives
The City of Sydney Archives is the corporate memory of the City of Sydney, the oldest continuously-functioning local council in Australia.
The Archives is responsible for identifying and preserving permanently valuable records of the City of Sydney Council and making these records available to researchers. It is also responsible for the disposal of obsolete records that have no further long-term value.
The City Archives contains a vast amount of information about the functions and activities of the City of Sydney Council since it was established in 1842. Currently, the Archives has more than 10,000 shelf-metres of archival records, including large numbers of plans and photographs.
