Bourke Street cycleway

WOOP-ing great celebration of Bourke Street cycleway

Sunday 15 May 2011

Popular Facebook community I (heart) Sydney Bike Lanes & Cycle Ways celebrated the new Bourke Street cycleway on Sunday 15 May 2011.

Residents, businesses, bike lovers and families joined the loop ride, stretching from Woolloomooloo to Waterloo, enjoying live music and performances, DJs, free bike maintenance, kids' entertainment, Bourke Street Public School sausage sizzle and lemonade stall, Sydney Cycle Chic Kids' "bling your bike" decorating area, vintage bike exhibition and special offers by shops, cafes and restaurants along the way to encourage people to explore the 3.2 kilometre cycleway.

At the same time they raised money for Cancer Council NSW's Do Your Thing initiative.

Since the start of construction, at least half a dozen new businesses have opened on Bourke Street - including a bicycle café and two bicycle shops.

WOOP was proudly supported by the City of Sydney and the cycleway is part of an extensive street upgrade which included works to make the street greener, brighter, and safer for local residents and visitors.
