About Parking Meters

The City has 3 types of meters located throughout the Local Government Area (LGA) – MX, Parkeon and Hectronic meters.  All City of Sydney meters accept payment by coin and many also accept payment by credit card and mobile phone.

MX

MX Parking Meter

MX Parking Meter

In June 2005 the City of Sydney installed 1000 MX parking meters throughout the City Local Government Area (LGA).  Features of MX meters include:

  • Payment by coin ($1, $2, 50c, 20c, 10c), credit card (Visa, MasterCard or AMEX) and mobile phone (mPARK)
  • ‘Pay and Display’ – they print a ticket for motorists to place on their dashboard
  • Environmentally-friendly – they are solar-powered and use biodegradable paper
  • Anti-vandalism features
  • Monitoring via a communications system, which automatically reports on any faults

Parkeon

Parkeon Parking Meter

The City has 172 Parkeon parking meters located throughout The Rocks and Millers Point.  Features of Parkeon meters include:

  • Payment by coin ($1, $2, 50c, 20c, 10c) and some meters also have credit card facilities (Visa, Mastercard and Amex)
  • ‘Pay and Display’ meters – print a ticket for motorists to place on their dashboard
  • Advanced anti-vandalism features
  • Monitoring via a communications system, which automatically reports on any faults

Hectronic

The city has 102 Hectronic meters which are located throughout Glebe and Ultimo.  Features of Hectronic meters include:

  • Payment by coin only ($1, $2, 50c, 20c, 10c)
  • 'Pay and Display' meters - print a ticket for motorists to place on their dashboard
  • Anti-vandalism features
  • Monitoring via a communications system, which automatically reports on any faults
