Concord Street, Erskineville

Cycleways

George Street | Flora Street | Concord Street

The City is building a safe, convenient and sustainable 200 kilometre cycle network to reduce road congestion, cut emissions and improve public health. We have designed the network to improve connections between employment, recreation and residential destinations to make cycling an attractive transport choice.

To make the road safer for cyclists and maintain access for motor vehicles, some changes over and above those proposed for George and Flora Streets will need to be made to Concord Street.

The proposed changes include:

  • Making the road two way for cyclists while remaining one way for cars and other motor vehicles
  • Installing a one way separated cycleway in the opposite direction to traffic
  • Installing a shared path from King Street to Concord Lane near the traffic signals
  • Painting bike logos on the road in both directions to make it clear where cyclists should ride
  • Removing up to six parking spaces on the railway side of the road to the cycleway near St Peters Station (to ensure cars can still comfortably travel along the road)
  • The removal of up to two parking spaces near King Street on the railway side of the road to comply with RTA safety requirements under current road rules.
No trees will be affected due to the changes and parking will remain nearby.

Notification Letter

In April 2009 a letter was distributed locally providing information on the project and inviting comment on the design.

The City will provide residents and businesses with ongoing updates on all cycleway projects and the broader bicycle
