Separated cycleway with parking

On a separated cycleway, bicycle riders have their own two-way dedicated lanes on the road which are separated from vehicles by a raised separator (usually a concrete median strip).
A separated cycleway generally fits on a standard street with all existing parking and travel lanes, and is placed between the footpath and the parking lane (there is parking adjacent to the cycleway).
By giving cyclists their own lane, many safety issues are immediately resolved. Of the 526 reported cycling accidents in the City of Sydney area between 2002 and 2007, 231 (44%) could have been prevented by separated cycleways.
