All about the City
The City of Sydney is a capital city council made up of diverse communities of individuals and families from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Around 177,000 people live in the 26.15 square kilometres of the Local Government Area (LGA) which has a workforce of 385,000 employed in 20,000 separate businesses.
On any given week day, 600,000 people travel into the CBD for employment, shopping or sightseeing. City residences and businesses occupy 32 million square metres of floor space.
The City of Sydney employs around 1,700 staff throughout the CBD and surrounding precincts to provide services on an annual budget of $430 million.
From Early Childhood teacher to Park Ranger, Garbage collector, Public Art Conservator, Electrician, New Year’s Eve fireworks co-ordinator and Arborist, City staff work every day to serve the community, making Sydney clean and beautiful and keeping the city moving.
