Evelyn Scott:

"Elders, distinguished guests, brothers and sisters, dear friends and fellow Australians, I acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional lands of the Eora and Cadigal people. I also acknowledge the elders with both traditional and historical connection to this region. On behalf of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation, welcome to this historic event. I hope this will be a day for future generations will look back upon one of the landmark steps on the long road towards genuine reconciliation between indigenous peoples and our fellow Australians."
