City of Sydney has a dedicated Strategy and Economic Development Unit which develops strategy, policy and programs for the City’s sustainable economic development.

Staff engage with businesses and chambers of commerce, undertake strategic economic research and facilitate trade, investment and partnerships in the City.

Economic Development Strategy
The City's 2007 Economic Development Strategy informs the parameters and priorities for the development of a more detailed Economic Development Strategy.

Support for Business
Find links to organisations which provide specialised support to business through programs, grants and networking or discuss Council support for your industry sector with a Council officer.

Business in Village Centres
In the spirit of 'connecting communities', Sustainable Sydney 2030 proposes a renewed focus on villages planning that will ensure that our local communities and economies are equitably served by 10 strengthened and sustainable Village Centres. These Village Centres will provide distinctive places for locals to meet, create, learn, work and shop.

Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations
The City works with the Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations who represent many of the small to medium business entities across the local government area.

Night Time Economy
The City is developing a policy that that will broaden the range of night time offering and provide clear direction for Sydney’s night time economy over the next 20 years, balancing public safety and economic and residential growth.

Tourism
As Australia's global city, Sydney hosts a wide array of public and community events which cater for a range of tastes. These events support and encourage business in Sydney.

City Research
The Economic Development Unit includes a team of dedicated and experienced research professionals who maintain the City’s comprehensive Floor Space and Employment Census. Other research from the team informs much of the City’s policy including demographic and business profiling and projections and changes in development and land use patterns.
