Shaanxi Celebrates in Sydney

Sydney’s welcomes 600 people from Shaanxi Province in China to join in the celebrations for the Year of the Rat.
Shaanxi Province was home to China’s first Emperor, famed for the army of Terracotta Warriors buried with him. The capital Xi’an was the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and the capital for 13 ruling dynasties.
Shaanxi’s historic past has made it home to many of China’s cultural traditions including Chinese Opera, waist drumming, Shaanxi percussion, folk dances and handicrafts.
Modern Shaanxi has a thriving arts scene. It gave the world the award winning film director Zhang Yimou (Raise the Red Lantern, House of Flying Daggers), boasts a vigorous underground music scene and is home to China’s burgeoning space industry.
Take this rare opportunity to see some of China’s ancient traditions and finest performers as Sydney welcomes Shaanxi Province for the Year of the Rat.
