Clover Moore MP
Lord Mayor, City of Sydney
"In recognition of our growing ties with one of the world’s most important economies, the City will be hosting a Chinese Business Summit as part of the New Year Festivities. This will bring together eminent business leaders and government officials to discuss and promote these ties. I’m excited that we’re able to do this and reinforce the City of Sydney as Australia’s gateway to China.
This will be the 12th year that the City of Sydney has hosted Chinese New Year Festival, and so we have come to the Year of the Rat, the first in the cycle of the Chinese zodiac signs. Chinese New Year is one of our most significant festivals and we’re expecting more than 600,000 people to join in our celebrations.
On the local level, Chinatown is one of the most unique neighbourhoods in our City of Villages and the contributions of our Chinese-Australian community continue to leave their postive mark on the life of this City."
