Children’s Fine Art Competition

World Environment Day 2008

What is this competition about?

World Environment Day is an annual celebration held on June 5. It is designed to make people aware of the environment and to encourage positive environmental action. It is celebrated by communities all around the world in different ways. In 2008, City of Sydney invites children to celebrate World Environment Day with a Children’s Fine Art Competition.

Individual Prizes

This is your opportunity to show you care, by observing nature and creating a fine artwork that expresses the theme:

“WHY I LOVE NATURE!”

What you can win!

Each age category winner will receive a family pass to Sustainable House Tour with Michael Mobbs, a personally signed copy of Michael Mobb’s DIY guide titled ‘Sustainable House’ and fine art materials.

A certificate of achievement and an environmental show bag will be presented to all participating children at the Official Exhibition Launch.

Judging Criteria

World Environment Day is about celebrating nature and rewarding achievement. The competition will reward work that shows great consideration of the theme “Why I Love Nature” as well as careful execution of a 2D fine art.

Mediums Recommended: Acrylic paint, charcoal, dry or greasy pastels, watercolour, collage and coloured pencils on canvas or thick art paper at least 120gsm.

Size of Artwork: A3 (420mm x 297mm), either in portrait or landscape composition.

Primary Schools Prize

City of Sydney is proud to announce the new competition category for Primary Schools.

Primary schools in the City of Sydney Local Governemnt Area are invited  o enter the schools prize category by creating a group canvas artwork dpicting the life cycle of a local native species of flora and fauna and its habitat.

What your School can win!

By entering in the competition your school can win a rain-water tank 2400mm diameter x 2550 mm high), plus the installation and plumbing for the tank worth $7000.00.

This will allow your school to collect natural rainwater for watering plants and flush toilets. In addition, your students will gain first hand experience in understanding benefits of rainwater tanks.

All school entries will be exhibited at the official exhibition.

Official Exhibition Launch

Make sure you join us at the Official Exhibition Launch!

When: 2pm-3.30pm, Saturday, 7 June 2008
Where: Pine Street Gallery, 64 Pine Street, Chippendale
What: Presentation of winners and afternoon tea

All artworks entered will be exhibited at Pine Street Gallery.

Exhibition On Show:

3 June - 13 June 2008

Monday to Friday: 9.30am-5.30pm
Saturday: 11am - 4pm.

This project is an initiative between City of Sydney’s Waste Education Team, Environment Unit and Pine Street Creative Arts Centre.
