History Publication Sponsorship Program

The History Publication Sponsorship Program assists with the costs of publications that are considered relevant to the ongoing research into and recording of the history of the City of Sydney.

Applications will be accepted for grant requests up to $15,000.

In the past, the History Publication Program has contributed to a number of books:

Deborah Beck, Hope in Hell, a history of Darlinghurst Gaol/National Arts School, Allen & Unwin, Sydney 2005. The City’s support prompted a major publisher to produce a high quality book.

The Green Square History Project, 2003. A short print run publication of a range of student work on this area. This was a basic production of useful material much needed by heritage practitioners, etc.

Jan Roberts: The Astor, Ruskin Rowe Press, 2003. The City's grant permitted a higher level of photographic reproduction.

The History Publication Sponsorship Program will respond to requests on an ad hoc from publishers and historians. Applications should be made in writing to the Lord Mayor, and will be assessed by City staff and approved by Council.
