The Next Generation – A Blueprint for Aged Services & Facilities 2008 - 2018
Please Note: the exhibition period for this item has now closed.
The City of Sydney has a long history in the provision of services to older people.
A Review of these services was undertaken in 2007. This Review included an exploration of the projected changes to the City’s population aged 50 and over, and the need to re-configure our services and facilities to meet those changes.
The Next Generation – A Blueprint for Aged Services & Facilities 2008 – 2018 recommends a positive move towards program, rather than centre based services. The Blueprint is based on current best practice and community consultation and is in keeping with Council’s objectives identified in its Social Plan.
The Blueprint has four key objectives
(a) Healthy Ageing - encompassing a broad range of programs that address the physical, mental, social and emotional well being of older people.
(b) Support Services – ongoing provision of adequate and appropriate services for the frail aged, people with a disability and carers.
(c) Transport - Access to adequate and accessible transport options.
(d) Community Development - continuous development of new programs in partnership with other agencies, to build community capacity.
