Safe City Camera

The City of Sydney works with police, business, residents and other stakeholders to increase safety in the city through community awareness and education, community projects and safe urban design.

Accords with Licensed Premises
Licensing Accords are agreements aimed at reducing alcohol related harm associated with licensed premises.

Alcohol & Licensed Premises
The City of Sydney has a long history of supporting safety enhancement in and around licensed premises.

Alcohol Free Zones
The City of Sydney supports a comprehensive approach to tackling alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour. Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) are one of the many strategies used to address these issues.

Asbestos
It is important that asbestos removal is undertaken safely and by licensed contractors to ensure people are not exposed to unsafe levels and to protect health.

Domestic Violence is a Crime
Police and community booklet to assist victims of domestic violence.  The resource provides information on accessing legal services, referrals, counselling and support.

Drink Spiking Campaign
To highlight the issue of drink spiking, the City of Sydney released a campaign in the form of posters, drink coasters and information kits for bar staff and patrons, in 500 pubs and clubs in the CBD and nearby suburbs, in December 2006.

Drug Safety
The City of Sydney is committed to responding to drug related issues in order to improve safety for City residents, businesses and visitors, as well as for those who use drugs.

Education and Safety Campaigns
Community Safety Education campaigns are a fundamental part of the City of Sydney’s Safe City crime prevention strategy.

Fire Safety
Annual Fire Safety Statements, Fire Safety Orders, Smoke Alarms and Fire Safety Guidelines.

Lead
Information about where lead is found, health impacts, risks of exposure and guidance on removal during refurbishment

Property Maintenance
The City of Sydney would like to remind all property owners of the importance of regular property maintenance and inspection by qualified professionals.  It is Council’s responsibility to protect public safety in our local area, and building maintenance is an important part of this.

Road Safety Program
The City of Sydney has implemented numerous program's to ensure the safety of everyone that uses its roads, pedestrians and motorists alike.

Safe City Program
Safe City works with a range of stakeholders in taking a co-ordinated approach with a focus on crime prevention to make the community a safer place.

Safe City Strategy 2007 - 2012
The Safe City Strategy provides an overarching framework to guide the City and its partners in tackling the complex range of crime and safety issues affecting both the Central Business District and urban villages.

Smoke Alarms
On 1 November 2006, the NSW Government made it compulsory for smoke alarms to be fitted in all residential type buildings where people sleep.

Street Safety Camera Program
The City’s Street Safety Cameras have been installed in crime 'hotspots' to assist NSW Police detect, prevent and prosecute assaults and robberies as well as other serious offences such as property damage.

Liquor Freeze
On 25 June 2009, the NSW Premier announced the formation of the Sydney Liquor Taskforce and a 12 month freeze on liquor licences to address alcohol related violence in key areas in the City of Sydney.
