Education & Safety Campaigns
About Crime Prevention Education
Community safety education campaigns are a fundamental part of the City of Sydney’s Safe City Strategy 2007-2012. The crime prevention campaigns respond to community and business concerns regarding opportunistic theft, namely ‘steal from persons’ and ‘steal from motor vehicle’ offences.
The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) released their annual report on NSW recorded crime statistics for 2008, which highlights that ‘steal from persons’ and ‘steal from motor vehicle’ offences are significantly down from previous years in the City of Sydney Local Government Area.
Safe City believes that crime prevention campaigns in conjunction with Police initiatives have been a contributing factor in these reductions in theft in the City of Sydney. See Safe City Program for more information. Developed in consultation with police, the campaigns provide simple reminders to visitors, workers and residents in the City of Sydney local government area to take precautions to protect their personal property from theft
Current campaigns include 'Gone in a Flash' and 'Where is your...?' publications that target 'steal from person' offences, and 'Stop Theft' products that target 'steal from motor vehicle' offences. The campaigns are supported by the NSW Attorney-General's Department.
You can download 'Gone in a Flash' and 'Where is your...?' publications or alternatively, you can order these, and other publications, from the City of Sydney by completing the Resource Order Form.
Campaign publications are available in a variety of forms and have been widely distributed to all licensed venues in the local government area, as well as other places such as foodcourts, cafes and libraries. Materials are available in:
- A4 posters
- A3 posters
- Drink Coasters
- Bookmarks.
Campaign publications raising awareness of ‘steal from motor vehicle’ offences have also been produced as A4 aluminium signage that has been installed on parking meters, light posts, walls and other visible spots in theft 'hotspots'.
Campaigns will be displayed on street furniture across the City of Sydney as well as in local press
