School Zones

School ZonesSchool zones are unique traffic environments.

All drivers need to take extra care!

Safety messages to remember:

  • Children are small, hard to see, unpredictable and impulsive.

  • Double parking endangers lives - Always observe the parking signs around schools, they are designed to keep children safe.

  • Park legally. Choose safety over convenience. Never park illegally in a No Stopping, No Parking, Bus Zone, across a driveway, near a school crossing, or in a bus bay.

  • Stop, Look, Listen and Think before crossing roads.

  • Slow Down! Children are Around - School Zones are 40 Zones.

  • Cars are a No Phone Zone – don’t talk or text while driving.

Ranger with childrenTraffic infringements in school zones attract increased penalties because of the increased risk associated with the offence.

Example; Double parking or parking to close to a corner or crossing reduces visibility for other drivers and pedestrians, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

To promote road safety, City Rangers conduct regular school zone patrols both in uniform and in plain clothes. Penalty notices may be issued in person or via the post.
