Community Bus Hire

The City of Sydney Community Bus Hire scheme is available to non-profit community organisations and groups that provide services of benefit to either the entire City of Sydney community or a specific target group.

The community buses must not be used for private, commercial or profit-making purposes.

Bus Availability

The City’s buses are available for bookings seven days per week on either a half day or full day basis, for permanent or casual bookings..

Fees

Accredited community groups and organisations are required to make a contribution towards the operating costs of the scheme. Fees start from $22.00, depending upon the category of use.

Category B Category C
  ½ Day (up to 4hrs) $79.00
Full Day (up to and over 4 hrs) $22.00 Full Day (over 4 hrs) $131.85
Overnight additional $69.00 Overnight additional $69.00

Cleaning and refuelling fees may also apply in certain circumstances, please telephone 02 8019 6924 for details.

Drivers

Community groups and organisations using the scheme are required to provide their own driver/s who will need to apply for authorisation.

Drivers should hold one of these licences:

  • LR Light Rigid (old class 1B or 3A)
  • MR Medium Rigid (old class 3A, 4A)
  • HR Heavy Rigid (old class 3B, 4B).

How to Apply

Community organisations and groups must apply for accreditation to use the scheme.

You can download the Community Bus Scheme Application and Policy. Please read and understand the Community Bus Scheme Policy and complete the Community Bus Scheme Accreditation Form.

Send the completed Accreditation Forms to the Community Transport Service Coordinator, GPO Box 1591, Sydney NSW 2001.

Successful applicants must then ensure their nominated drivers:

  • read and understand the Instructions for Motor Vehicle Drivers
  • download and complete the Community Bus Driver Authorisation Form
  • lodge this form in person at one of the Council Locations and bring the appropriate driver's license to be sited by staff.

Once your organisation is accredited and your driver authorised, you can:

  • nominate the dates you would like to use a bus on the Community Bus Scheme Booking Form, which you can download
  • fax the completed forms to 02 9273 7562 or post to City of Sydney GPO Box 1591 Sydney NSW 2001.
