Homeless Persons Information Centre

The Homeless Persons Information Centre (HPIC) is telephone information and referral service that directs those in the community who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, to the services that may assist them. It provides professional assessments and referrals for clients seeking accommodation and support services within NSW.

The service is provided directly by the City of Sydney. In 2002 HPIC responded to over 47,000 calls from individuals and government and community agencies. In the same year HPIC successfully referred 93% of clients to accommodation. HPIC is in constant communication with other services ensuring up to date information on service requirements and availability in NSW.

The City of Sydney's Homeless Persons Information Centre can make referrals for individuals, couples and family groups over 18 years of age. HPIC referral officers prefer to speak to the client directly which allows clients to express their own needs and experiences, and allows HPIC to gain the individual’s permission to disclose personal details in making a referral to other services.

Clients are also able to seek information anonymously from HPIC, but we may not be able to assist with a referral.
