Living in Harmony Festival

The City's Living in Harmony Festival is part of the Commonwealth Government Diverse Australia Program. The Diverse Australia Program is an initiative that engages all Australians to address issues of cultural, racial and religious intolerance by promoting respect, fairness, inclusion and a sense of belonging for everyone.
A core component of the Diverse Australia Program is the celebration of Harmony Day.

Harmony Day falls on 21 March and coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is a day that gives us all the opportunity to celebrate the cohesive and inclusive nature of our nation and promotes the benefits of cultural diversity.

For the past six years, the City of Sydney has been hosting the Living in Harmony Festival to mark Harmony Day and celebrate the City's vibrant cultural diversity.

Some of the City of Sydney Living in Harmony Festival highlights events for 2010 included:

  • Norooz, Persian New Year and Multicultural Extravaganza
  • Media and Inclusion Luncheon Panel and Launch of the Islamic Sciences & Research Academy of Australia
  • Chinese Cultural Days
  • Indonesian Cultural Day
  • Living in Harmony Glebe Community Mural project
