Inner City Youth at Risk Project
Inner City Youth at Risk (formally Kings Cross Youth at Risk) assists young people who have become involved in a high risk lifestyle in Kings Cross.
In February 2003 the Deputy Premier announced that funds would be allocated over two years to: help older youth who have become involved in high risk Kings Cross lifestyle. The focus identified as being coordinating services, working with youth in crisis and ensuring service availability after hours.
The Inner City Youth at Risk Project achieves this goal through:
- The gathering of reliable data on the number and needs of young people at risk in Kings Cross
- The coordination of a Kings Cross Outreach Coordination Committee
- The coordination of a brokerage program
A Inner CityYouth at Risk Steering Committee was established to oversee the project.
The agencies represented on the Steering Committee are:
- City of Sydney
- Department of Community Services
- Department of Housing
- South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Area Health Services
- Oasis Youth Support Network – Salvation Army
- Kirketon Road Centre – SESIAHS
- Kings Cross Local Area Command – NSW Police.
An Outreach Coordination Committee was also established in 2005 and members actively participate in monthly meetings where individual client plans are met with the use of brokerage funds.
The agencies represented on the Outreach Coordination Committee are:
- Juanita Neilson Centre – City of Sydney
- Oasis Youth Support Network – Salvation Army
- Kirketon Road Centre - SESIAHS

The City has also provided funding through their community grants program for outdoor film nights and data collection. The Kings Cross Youth at Risk Project will be providing the City of Sydney with ongoing data relating to the numbers and needs of young people in Kings Cross and assisting with their review of youth services.
