Draft Heritage Streetscapes Study

The Draft Heritage Streetscapes Study is a comprehensive review of the City’s 56 heritage streetscapes recognised under Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2005 and South Sydney Local Environmental Plan 1998. The draft study contains a comprehensive analysis of each heritage streetscape including upgraded heritage inventory assessment reports for heritage streetscapes which include development histories, statements of significance, and policy recommendations and maps identifying contributory, neutral and detracting development. The heritage streetscapes all remain largely as currently defined in the relevant Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) with minor boundary changes proposed to some heritage streetscapes to exclude detracting development, or to include contributory development.
A comprehensive review of Glebe Point Road was not part of this draft study as it was included in the Glebe Conservation Areas Study.
How the draft study will be used
In addition to providing valuable information about the history and development of heritage streetscapes in the City, the draft study will be used to inform the City’s new City Plan Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP).
- The boundary of each heritage streetscape and any recommendations for potential Heritage Items will be included in the Heritage Schedule of the LEP.
- The Statements of Significance and Buildings Contributions Maps will be included as an appendix to the DCP and will be used to assist in the determination of development applications.
- The detailed heritage inventory sheets have been incorporated into Council’s Heritage Database.
