Greening Sydney

Please Note: the exhibition period for this item has now closed.

The City is launching an important new program to increase tree coverage, improve urban ecology and biodiversity, and support community greening to ensure Sydney is one of the world’s leading green cities.

The Plan recognises the importance of trees and other plants in providing significant environmental, social and economic benefits for the community. It also acknowledges the importance of ecology and biodiversity to city living.

The Plan identifies six key areas needing action: developing and protecting the urban forest; improving urban ecology and biodiversity; greening arterial links; greening new development; greening local streets and spaces; and helping the community to green our City.

Under the draft Greening Sydney Plan, the City will deliver some 42 programs and projects in partnership with residents, local businesses, developers and volunteer groups.
