Dale Miles - Underworld
Dale Miles - Underworld
Underworld has firstly been generated out of the given site being the Men’s Convenience (underground toilet entrance) in Taylor Square North. Its design and symbolic form is a
direct response to the mysteriousness of the shape of the space enclosed by the entrance fence and the two descending staircases. It is the mystery of the void inverted, the spider exiting its funnel.
Underworld shall activate the space by injecting vibrant high key colours to a site that is dominated by grey and dark brown tones during the day. By night the site will be transformed by the sculpture dispersing a gentle phosphorescent green glow that shall create a theatre-like atmosphere. Further, Underworld shall provide an organic profile shape that is dominated by diagonals that counterpoint to the grid-like pattern that dominates most city spaces.
