Revitalisation of Bulletin Place
Please Note: the exhibition period for this item has now closed.
Background
Enlivening unused or forgotten laneways is a key element of the Sustainable Sydney 2030 program to create a more vibrant City Centre. The City of Sydney is making changes to these unique spaces so they can be the setting for small bars, cafes, shops and cultural activities, as well as offering opportunities for local and emerging artists, musicians and entrepreneurs.
Bulletin Place is the latest laneway chosen for revitalisation by the City and a number of improvements are being considered.
The upgrade aims to:
- Make the laneway more interesting and inviting for pedestrians;
- Improve the look of the laneway and encourage its use;
- Improve the connection between Pitt Street and Macquarie Place;
- Make best use of the existing character and historic elements of the laneway; and
- Reinforce the views to Macquarie Place.
Concept design features being considered include the following:
- New high quality paving;
- New laneway furniture and decorative lighting;
- Introducing a clearly signed 10 km/hour shared zone from the Pitt Street entry that gives pedestrians priority over vehicles;
- Proposing that the parking arrangements in the western section of the laneway to be changed from “No parking” to ‘No Stopping” to improve operations and amenity;
- Improved public area lighting, wall and breezeway finishes; and;
- Protecting the unique heritage facades of buildings.
