Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S)

The Council of the City of Sydney is committed to the occupational health and safety of all employees and those visiting Council premises by providing a safe and healthy workplace. The City regards its occupational health and safety responsibilities with the utmost importance and is committed to provide the necessary resources to comply with all relevant Acts and Regulations.

To achieve the commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, the City Occupational Health Safety Unit has developed numerous programs, in consultation with staff, to achieve a reduction in the number and severity of injuries in the workplace. The City's Occupational Health and Safety Committee conduct regular workplace inspections and play an advisory role to staff and management.  Occupational health and safety responsibilities are decentralised throughout the organisation with managers and employees being actively involved.

The City contributes to improvements in equipment design and work practices to achieve higher levels of safety which are recognised throughout Local Government.

The City is also committed to the health and wellbeing of staff and has implemented an extensive Health Promotion program for staff which includes initiatives such as health related seminars, Pilates classes and healthy cooking demonstrations.  The City has successfully implemented a Safety Awards program for staff in which safety innovations are recognised and rewarded.
