Buckland, Myrtle and Meagher Street, Chippendale

Chippendale Pedestrian Cycling Traffic Calming (PCTC)

The streetscape works on Buckland, Myrtle and Meagher Streets encompassed the detailed design of the City of Sydney’s Pedestrian Cycling Traffic Calming (PCTC) scheme for Chippendale.

The scope the streetscape works included:

  • Footpath widening and re-alignments at key intersections to assist reducing traffic speeds and to improve pedestrian safety
  • Pedestrian crossings and footpath widening at the intersections of Broadway and Buckland Street
  • Raised pedestrian crossing on Buckland Street near Blackfriars Street
  • Footpath widening along sections of Buckland Street (between Daniel Street and Myrtle Street) and Myrtle Street (between Smithers and Abercrombie Street)
  • Improved intersection arrangement at Abercrombie and Meagher/Myrtle Streets
  • New street trees and garden beds
  • Creation of rain gardens in new kerb extensions to filter stormwater, removing contaminants before stormwater enters Blackwattle Bay; and
  • Stormwater harvesting for use in new garden beds and tree pits
  • Additional areas of garden beds along the verge to further enhance green spaces in the streets and create additional future provision for community use.
