Victoria Park Playground Upgrade

Victoria Park Playground

Overview

Victoria Park now features a state of the art playground. Local children – through their parents and family members – were given a major say on what equipment and features the playground would include.

Located on the City Road side of the park, the new playground is safe, protected from the elements and accessible for children of all ages and abilities.

Victoria Park is a large, busy, open, green space also used by local residents, university students, shoppers from nearby centres and pool users.

Victoria Park Playground

Project scope

The upgraded playground is designed to inspire children with its interesting and stimulating equipment and natural surrounds. Playground features include:

  • an all-abilities climbing net and accessible swing
  • a flying fox
  • nature play areas
  • a double swing set, balancing beams, spinning dish and pipe slide
  • a toddler’s tricycle circuit

Many parents and family members called for a shaded area for younger users so two pergolas were built into the site. Five new trees have been planted to provide maximum shade and a rest area. The shading will improve as the trees fully mature.

Native plants and low barrier fencing surround a toddler's play area. Seats and an easy-to-reach bubbler have also been installed.

Officially opened April 2010

The playground was “road tested” by children who gave it the thumbs up before it was officially opened on 24 April 2010.
