Walla Mulla and Bourke Street Parks Upgrade
The City has recently transformed Bourke Street and Walla Mulla Parks in Woolloomooloo, as part of the Woolloomooloo Improvements Plan, to ensure they are safe, attractive and accessible.
The two parks were officially opened by Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP on Saturday, 20 August 2011.
Walla Mulla Park renewal
Works to renew Walla Mulla Park included:
- Building green walls and a green roof for plants to grow on
- Upgrading the toilet block and making cubicles bigger to improve access
- Removing and lowering retaining walls to improve visibility and emergency vehicle access
- Installing new lights to make the park safer
- Thinning thick vegetation to increase visibility
- Installing new furniture and better paving
- Reducing clutter in the park to increase open space.
Bourke Street Park renewal
Work to renew Bourke Street Park included:
- Building a new toilet block with better facilities
- Creating a purpose built secure space for a future community garden
- Building a storage shed with an overhead pergola for the community garden
- Improving landscaping, installing new retaining walls and laying grass
- Installing new paving, furniture and exercise equipment
- Removing unstable trees to make the park safer and increase sunlight.
Sustainable design features include:
- Collecting water from the roof of the toilet block to re-use in toilet flushing
- Investigating collecting water from the railway viaducts for use in the park and community garden.
