Small Park & Playground Renewals
Ethel Turner Playground, Paddington.
The City’s Small Parks and Playgrounds Renewal Program is a continuing program to improve the quality of our open space and play experiences.
Our aim is to ensure residents have access to a quality play facility within 500 metres and that these playgrounds provide a diverse range of play opportunities for children and carers.
As part of this commitment we are allocating funding each year to renewing these areas. There are about 330 small parks and playgrounds in the City and each year a number, across different suburbs, are selected for renewal.

Key elements of the park upgrades
The decision to renew a park will depend on existing conditions, surrounding open space, community needs and existing equipment. Key elements of each upgrade will include:
- Improved facilities such as seating, fencing and where appropriate playgrounds
- New trees and planting including mixes of native and exotic species
- New paving and improved pedestrian access.
Consultation
We will consult the community for every park or playground renewal to encourage local residents to have a say on how their parks will look. Residents will receive a letter and invitation to comment on a concept plan before we develop a final design.
