Time Line & Next Steps

Timeline

  • June 2005: Council resolved to prepare new Comprehensive Local Environmental Plan (s.54)
  • 2005 – 2010: Preparation of background studies to inform the new Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP)  
  • June 2007: Consultation with state agencies (s.62)
  • September 2010 – Council resolved to submit Draft Sydney LEP 2010 to the Department of Planning (s.64)
  • November 2010 - Permission from Department of Planning to publicly exhibit Draft Sydney LEP 2011 (s.65) subject to Department of Planning instructions.  The Parliamentary Counsel, the NSW Government’s legislative drafting office prepares an amended Draft Sydney LEP 2011 for exhibition purposes
  • December 2010 - The Department of Planning provides an amended draft written instrument, draft Sydney LEP 2010, for exhibition purposes, prepared by Parliamentary Counsel, the NSW Government’s legislative drafting office
  • February 2011 - Public exhibition of draft Sydney LEP 2011 (s.66), draft Sydney DCP 2010, draft City of Sydney Competitive Design Policy and draft Green Square Affordable Housing Program
  • April 2011 to February 2012: Review of submissions and consideration of issues raised.
  • March 2012: The draft Sydney LEP 2011 was approved by the Council and referred to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure with a request that the Minister make the Plan (s.68)
  • May 2012: The draft Sydney DCP 2010 was adopted by the Council and will come into effect once the draft Local Environmental Plan is made.

 

Next Steps

  • Consideration of draft Sydney LEP (as amended) by the Department of Planning and Parliamentary Counsel; The Director-General prepares a report for the Minister (s.69)
  • Draft Sydney LEP (as amended) signed by The Minister for Planning and is gazetted on the NSW legislation website.
  • The Sydney Development Control Plan, City of Sydney Competitive Design Policy and Green Square Affordable Housing Program take effect on gazettal of the Sydney Local Environmental Plan.
