Heritage Instruments & Policies

Plans and Policies as they relate to heritage and archaeology within the City of Sydney include (see Planning Controls and Conditions):

City of Sydney Heritage Development Control Plan 2006
The City of Sydney Heritage DCP provides controls for development to heritage items, and buildings and sites within heritage conservation areas and heritage streetscapes, and development to properties over 50 years old where a heritage impact statement is required.  The DCP includes chapters covering vicinity controls, controls for heritage items, heritage conservation areas and heritage streetscapes, additions, infill development, changes to building elements, shopfronts, development on lanes, designing for cars, public domain, and specific building types.

Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2005
Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2005 contains heritage provisions for the CBD and immediate surrounds, including Millers Point and most of Ultimo and Pyrmont (see Planning Controls Map).

South Sydney LEP 1998
South Sydney LEP 1998, as amended, contains broad planning principles, specific objectives for the different land use zones and heritage provisions for the former South Sydney Council area.

Leichhardt LEP 2000, as amended, contains broad planning principles, specific objectives for the different land use zones and heritage provisions for Glebe and Forest Lodge that were previously in the Leichhardt Local Government Area.
