Weatherboard Buildings Draft Study
Weatherboard buildings (buildings with a timber frame and cladding) are important components of the built environment within the City of Sydney. They:
- Are amongst the oldest buildings in the City
- Demonstrate particular aspects of 19th and early 20th century life
- Make a positive contribution to the character of streets and localities in which they are located
- Provide diversity in the type of housing within the City.
Unfortunately many weatherboard buildings have been demolished due to successive periods of slum clearance and redevelopment. A Study has been conducted of remaining weatherboard buildings. This Study recommends a number of measures aimed at preserving these buildings.
A copy of the study, the accompanying Council report and resolution and a brochure outlining appropriate maintenance, repairs, alterations and additions to weatherboard buildings are available for download here.
