Green Square Urban Renewal Area – Proposed Planning Controls for the new City Plan and the Green Square Background Paper

The City of Sydney is undertaking a review of the planning controls that apply to the Green Square Urban Renewal Area (Green Square) as part of the City Plan Review project. The City Plan Review is the umbrella program for reviewing existing planning controls within the City of Sydney Local Government Area to deliver the new City Plan, a new package of planning controls for the whole City, comprising primarily a new Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP).

The review of the Green Square planning controls has been informed by a number of projects, studies and research. This work is detailed in the Green Square Urban Renewal Area Background Paper. The Background Paper documents the area’s history, recent development trends and pressures, and summarises the extensive information that has been considered in the review. State and local policies and directions, including the State Government’s Metropolitan Strategy and the City of Sydney Sustainable Sydney 2030 are also considered.

The Paper also identifies studies and projects being undertaken that will have implications for development in Green Square and will inform the refinement of the planning controls. The Background Paper concludes with land use and built form recommendations proposed for the City Plan.

The proposed planning controls and the Background Paper were placed on non-statutory exhibition between 22 September and 17 October 2008. Submissions were received and will inform the finalisation of planning controls for the City Plan LEP and DCP. You will be able to comment on the new City Plan when it is placed on public exhibition.
