Talk rubbish with us!

City of Sydney is working on a social research and needs assessment project on business waste management. The aim of the study is to explore the range of support and information small businesses need to manage their business waste sustainably.

Businesses may receive a telephone call from us in the coming months, to gain your input into the project. You do not need to prepare anything for this discussion.

Your participation in the research will give us a good understanding of the needs of the local business community, which will enable City of Sydney to better support you to manage your business waste sustainably.

Watch this space to find out the results of the research!

For more information on this project, contact Kath McLaughlin, Waste Services, City of Sydney at kmclaughlin@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or on 02 9265 9333.

Discounted Energy Assessments Available

The Department of Environmental and Climate Change (DECC) are providing subsidised energy efficiency assessments for small businesses in NSW that use up to $20,000 in electricity a year.

The program offers:

  • A subsidised personalised energy assessment and action plan
  • A 50% rebate of up to $5,000 for businesses that use $5,000-$20,000 a year in electricity and $2,000 for businesses that use less than $5,000 a year in electricity.

Energy assessment

Businesses pay only $50 to the assessor at the time of the assessment and receive a personalised energy assessment and action plan. The balance (either $100 or $250, depending on annual electricity use) is deducted from the rebate.

The rebate is for implementing energy efficiency improvements as outlined in your action plan, including:

  • lighting and skylights
  • heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and insulation
  • electric motors
  • air compressors
  • commercial refrigeration

  • insulation.

The rebate is only available for items with a payback period of greater than 2 years.
