Waste Rules for Businesses
All commercial properties in the City of Sydney Local Government Area that generate waste must adhere to the Local Approvals Policy (LAP) for Waste Management in Public Places.

| All businesses must have a waste contractor to collect their rubbish | Don’t put your businesses’ rubbish in public bins or other businesses’ bins |
| Make sure all rubbish is contained inside your bin. Only rubbish contained in a bin can be collected | Don’t place rubbish next to or on top of bins e.g plastic bags, oil drums, loose cardboard boxes etc |
| Place rubbish in bins so the lid can close properly | Don’t overfill bins |
| Make sure your bins are taken off the street as soon as they are emptied | Don’t leave bins out on public property |
| Waste oil drums must be collected from within your property by the waste contractor | Don’t place waste oil drums on public property for collection. |
| All bins must be labelled with the name, & contact details of the business and your waste contractor | Don’t use a bin that is not identifiable |
Fines
Businesses can be fined up to $1500 for not presenting their waste properly.
