Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, visited St Andrew’s Cathedral on Monday 13 March as part of their trip to Australia for the opening of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
The Royals attended a Ceremonial welcome including a 21-gun artillery salute and a welcome by indigenous leaders at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt this morning. The Queen later opened the new Western Colonnade of the Opera House.
But attention turned to Sydney Town Hall at lunchtime when the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended a Commonwealth Day Observance at St Andrew’s Cathedral; the first time the observance has been held outside London.
Music sounded throughout Sydney Square as workers, tourists and school children eagerly awaited a glimpse of the Queen.
