Surry Hills Library Project Update
The City approved plans for the new community facility on the site of the current Surry Hills Library, Childcare Centre and Neighbourhood Centre at the September Council Meeting.
The existing services have been relocated to temporary premises and are currently in operation.
Demolition of the existing building and work to prepare the site for the construction process commenced before Christmas 2006. The works included mural archival and conservation works, demolition of the existing building and installation of temporary site hoarding around the site perimeter.
Demolition and site clearance have been completed at the end of February. The Construction of the Main Works are scheduled to commence in mid 2007 (see Construction).

Surry Hills Library closed its doors on 30 September 2006. A temporary library
link provides limited resources only - magazines, newspapers, videos, DVDs and CDs. Internet and catalogue access are available and enable Internet searches and requests to be made from other branches and delivered to the branch or library link of your choice. A free access collection of fiction is held in the Community Centre.
