Requesting Books in Other Languages

FREE Service!

Books in languages not available the City of Sydney Library Network can be ordered free of charge.
Books are available in more than 40 additional languages.

How to Order German language children's book cover.

To make a request:

  • Contact the City of Sydney Library Tel: 02 9242 8555 or email library@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or visit in person at any of the library branches.
  • Quote your City of Sydney Library card number
  • Indicate the language and type of material you would like to read:
    • fiction
    • popular non-fiction, history, poetry and drama, cookery etc.
    • resources for children, picture books, bilingual books

Please note that specific titles cannot be requested using this service. To request specific titles please use the Inter-Library Loans Service (fees apply).

How Many Books Will be Delivered?

A selection of approximately 25 books will be delivered.

How Long Will it Take?

You will receive a letter when the books arrive at the library. The average delivery time is 10 weeks.

How Many Books Can You Borrow?

Borrow up to 20 books for three weeks.

Magazines

In addition to magazines in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Thai, the library also offers a selection of magazines in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
