Save Power Kits

Save power kit for loan at the library.

Do you want to save power and money at home?

You can borrow a Save Power Kit from the library. It's a fun and educational way for you to learn more about the power you use and how to reduce your power bills. The Save Power Kits provide tools, information and a guidebook to help you make your home more energy efficient. For availability click here.

The Save Power Kit includes:

  • Power-Mate Lite – To measure the power used by your TV, washing machine, dryer, fridge and other equipment and appliances.  It also shows you how much they cost to run and the carbon pollution they create
  • Infrared thermometer – To find out where your home lets in the cold in winter or the heat in summer
  • Save Power thermometer – To measure your room and fridge temperatures
  • Stopwatch – Time how long you spend in the shower and measure how much hot water you use with the stopwatch
  • Compass – To determine which direction your home faces
  • Guidebook.

Bike Repair Kits

Are you a cyclist or considering purchasing a bicycle?

Bike repair kits are now held in each branch of the City of Sydney Library for loan to our cycling library customers. Each kit includes a bike repair tool and a mini bike pump. The kits are borrowed in the same way as our other collection items: they have a 3 week loan period and can be reserved and transferred between branches. Now you can make a quick repair without denting your wallet!

The Library holds numerous books on cycling techniques, routes, competitions and maintenance. Browse our collection at your nearest branch, place your request via our online catalogue (click 'Request item for $1.50', then enter your library card number).

You can hire more than books, cds, dvds and magazines at your local library now. Power-Mates will measure the amount of electricity each of your appliances uses. Bike Library

Bicycle for hire from the Newtown Bike Library.

Green Living Centre Bike Library (Newtown) is a library of specialist bikes and equipment for use by local residents, businesses and visitors. Library membership is $10 for residents and businesses from Marrickville and City of Sydney Council areas, and $20 for non-residents. Full details.

Cycling is a convenient, sustainable and enjoyable way to get around Sydney. The City of Sydney has begun construction of a high quality network of cycle paths and lanes that will make cycling a relaxed, safe, mainstream transport option for adults and children. Full details.
