Make the most of your New Year's Eve celebrations and plan your night ahead using the information below. Further details will also be added closer to the event.
If you are heading out…
Where to watch the fireworks
- Check the vantage points map to work out where you want to go ahead of time.
- Remember that the popular vantage points fill up early, so if you don’t have plans to arrive by the early afternoon, it is best to avoid the CBD foreshore areas and other key vantage points.
- NO BYO ALCOHOL OR GLASS applies to most sites on NYE, so make sure you know what restrictions apply to the location where you want to spend NYE.
How to get there and home again
- Public transport is the only way to travel on NYE so leave the car at home and visit www.131500.info in advance to work out the best route to travel by public transport.
- Be aware that road closures in the CBD affect the normal transport routes, so it is important to know from where you will arrive and depart.
- Allow extra time to travel to and from your destination on the night and remain patient as delays are to be expected despite additional services.
Be prepared and celebrate safely
- Use sunscreen and wear a hat during the daytime.
- Eat well throughout the day and evening, drink plenty of water and limit your alcohol intake to ensure you make it to midnight.
- Look after your mates and have a plan of where to meet if you get separated on the night as mobile phone networks can be congested.
- Remember that NYE is for everyone, so be mindful of those around you who want to enjoy the celebrations too.
What to bring and not to bring
- Glass and BYO alcohol are NOT permitted in all managed access sites and many other sites on the harbour. However, you can pack your own food, water and other non-alcoholic beverages in plastic containers, and many sites will also have food and beverages on sale. See the vantage point map for restrictions, services and facilities.
- Bring your radio and tune in to 104.1 2DayFM for the 9pm and Midnight Fireworks’ soundtracks.
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring warm clothing to be prepared for cooler weather.
