Graffiti Management Policy
Background
The City of Sydney Graffiti Management Policy was adopted on 6 December 2004. You can download the Graffiti Management Policy as a PDF document.
The policy has been developed to enhance the City's environment and maintain better neighbourhoods for residents, businesses and visitors by minimising the impact of graffiti. The Policy addresses issues relating to graffiti on private property including posters and notices and aerosol art.
The policy was placed on public exhibition, from 4 September 2004 till 4 October 2004. During the exhibition period, the City received 21 submissions from the public. These submissions were each considered and offered a diverse range of opinions on the City's draft policy and current graffiti removal practice.
Following the public exhibition period, the draft policy was adopted by Council on 6 December 2004. The policy was adopted with amendment, adding a section relating specifically to election posters.
Overall, the City's graffiti removal program has been successful and well received by the community. The City received a number of submissions in praise of the results achieved in the public domain as a result of the its graffiti removal program.
