Starting a New Community Garden

Gardeners tending their plot

Growing a community group of enthusiastic and committed participants is an important first step in community gardening, a group of people can help share the load and help build relationships and partnerships in the community to make the garden a success.

Download our guide Getting Started in Community Gardening to help your group plan, design and implement a community garden project of your own. Establishing a Community Garden on Council Land

All applicants should first read the Community Gardens Policy which outlines the process for establishing new gardens on Council owned land including establishing a community garden group, conducting a site assessment of potential sites and discussing their proposal with the City to identify any possible issues before submitting an application form.

The City can help new community garden groups to plan and design their project and to complete an application form.
