Martin Place

Martin Place, a pedestrianized former street at the heart of the CBD located between George Streets and Macquarie Streets is a significant and popular civic open space hosting a Cenotaph, numerous major public art installations, fountains and an amphitheatre.

The Cenotaph located between George and Pitt Streets is an inveterate place for civic and personal reflection where wreaths are laid in memory of service persons who died during wartime. A dawn service is held annually at the site on ANZAC day and Remembrance Day.

The landmark Lloyd Reece Fountain located between Pitt Street and Castlereagh Streets, a featured in the Matrix movie, is located adjacent to the Martin Place Amphitheatre which hosts a wide variety of community events throughout the year. The Amphitheatre and surrounds are also available for hire for corporate promotions and functions.

A public art installation ‘The Passage’ features a misting fountain and an adjacent memorial to the Commando Regiment are located in Martin Place between Macquarie and Castlereagh Streets.

With its public seating, tourist information & retail kiosks, with convenient surrounding cafes, restaurants, bars, shopping plazas, and underground rail station, Martin Place is a highly popular spot for workers, commuters and visitors throughout the week.
