Situated adjacent to the University of Sydney on the corner of City and Parramatta Road Broadway, Victoria Park is an inner city oasis ideal for picnics and passive recreation. This nine hectare park boasts extensive grassed areas, a children’s playground and the serene Lake Northram, home to numerous species of native and visiting waterbirds.
The park features a number of historic buildings and structures including the sandstone Gatehouse and Gardener’s Cottage, historic entrance gates, an ornamental wooden bridge and a giant Canadian totem pole. The gardens include a large number of mature native trees, formal bedding plant displays and aquatic plants. The park hosts a number of community events throughout the year including the Live Green Festival and the Gay and Lesbian Fair Day.
A major new playground with play equipment for children of all ages including a flying fox, basketball practice hoop, swings, spinners and swings was constructed within the park in 2009.
The Victoria Park Pool aquatic facility located within the park features the 50 metre King George VI Memorial Swimming Pool, a shaded children’s wading pool with water deck, a fully-equipped gymnasium, crèche, swim shop and café.
