Finding Events

Browsing for Events

Using the Menu
  • Use the links in the top red bar 1 to view upcoming event highlights, free events, events suitable for families, and major Sydney venues.
  • Use the links in the orange bar 2 to view all events within a category. For example, clicking on Music will display all Musical related events listed in the calendar.
  • Event listings within a category can be refined further by selecting a subcategory.3 For example, clicking on Music then Jazz will display all Jazz related events listed in the calendar.

Using Search
  • In the "KEYWORD SEARCH" field enter a word relating to your area of interest then press "Go". For example, entering "Jazz" will list all events containing the word "Jazz," or "David Bowie" will return all information containg the words "David" and/or "Bowie."
  • Click on "Advanced Search" 1 underneath the search box on every page to further refine you event search.

Sorting Listings

  •  The order of listings displayed within an event category 1 can be changed by selecting a different option in the drop-down menu 2 then clicking "Go".  Events can be sorted by Date, Venue, and Title.

Finding Events Occurring Between Two Specific Dates

  • On the right hand side below advanced search select the "from" date 1  and the "to" date  2 and click "Go".
  • All events between these two dates will be listed.

Using the Calendar

  • Click on the «» arrows next to the month 1  on the calendar until you get to the relevant month.
  • Click on the month (e.g. DECEMBER). A list of events for that month will be displayed in the main window.
  • Above the event list you can navigate to " « Previous Month" and "Next Month »"  2
  • Click on a date 3 to move through the days of the month.

Finding Events Using Advanced Search

  • Click on "Advanced Search"  1  underneath the search box on every page.
  • The advanced search page will appear in the main window.
  • If you want to search by keywords or find free events please use the "Keyword search" text box 2 .
  • Otherwise add a date range, select an event category, interest and venue from the drop-down menus and click "Go" 3 .

Submitting Events

PLEASE NOTE:
To be listed, events must:

  1. occur at a venue or location within the City of Sydney boundary
  2. be open to the general public
  3. have broad appeal for people from the City's Community as well as visitors to our area
  4. be expected to attract at least 200 people
  5. be submitted by the event organiser or authorised agent
  6. be annual, one-off, or special events
  7. be specific, finalised and confirmed prior to submission (Events with dates to be announced, undetermined locations, etc. cannot be listed.) 

The City of Sydney is not obliged to list events submitted here and reserves the right to edit or decline any event.  

Event Submission Form

  • Click on "Submit an Event"  1 . The button is present on every page underneath the calendar.
  • Please read through the Event Submission Criteria
  • Then fill in the "Event Submission Form".

Event Details

  • The "Title" is the heading which will be displayed for your event on the webpage.
  • The "Category" is where your event will be listed - see the orange navigation at the top of the page. Please browse through the categories if you are not sure where your event fits in.
  • "Interest" categories are mainly used for search purposes.
  • "Short Description" is used when a list of events are displayed. Please be brief and use only one to two sentences.
  • "Long Description" is used to give full information about your event.

Dates / Costs / Venue

  • Click on the "Event Dates" button and in the pop-up window click the "Add Event Date" button  1 . Select the type of date most suitable for your event, fill in the date information and click "Submit". When you see "Date Information" with your event date underneath it  2  your information has been saved and you can close the window.
    - If you want to change the date information click the "Event Dates" button again and click "Edit" 3 , to remove a date click "Delete" 4 .
    - You can add more than one date or date span for one event by selecting "Add Event Date" again.
  • Please fill in the "Cost" price with a $ sign.
  • Select a "Venue" from the drop-down list. If your venue is not present make sure it is within the City of Sydney boundary and then fill in the venue information by clicking the "Event Venue" button.

  • Please fill in your "Contact Details". The email address has to be valid.
