Benefits of cycling

Burning calories

Bicycle Victoria have developed a useful tool to calculate the calories consumed by cycling which can be accessed here: www.bv.com.au.

Reduction in emissions

The Australian Greenhouse Office have developed a tool to calculate the emissions from cars. Use the calculator here to calculate emissions. If you were to ride 100 kilometres, you would save 21kg of greenhouse gas emissions compared to driving an average size car.

This map shows current routes for cyclists and where facilities for cyclists will be added in the future.  Note that cyclists are not allowed to cycle in bus only lanes and only in certain circumstances in pedestrian paths.
