Druitt Place
The City is committed to helping create a more integrated transport system through active support of light rail and cycling.
The benefits of providing a well designed, connected and safe network of cycle paths are substantial – from reducing congestion and carbon emissions to aiding healthier lifestyles and boosting pedestrian amenity to increased business outcomes. These benefits are not just limited to bike riders.
The City is methodically rolling out the bicycle network in a measured and responsible manner over the next four years, including comprehensive public engagement, pre, during and post construction.
Druitt Place will provide bicycle riders with a safe and convenient link between Sussex and Kent Streets, where it will connect with the City’s Kent Street Cycleway.
A contra-flow bicycle lane improves safety for cyclists travelling in the opposite direction to vehicles by providing them with dedicated space on the road.
About the Cycleway
The concept plan proposes:
- a 1.5 metre wide green painted contra-flow lane on the southern side of Druitt Place
- new line markings and bicycle logos on the cycleway
- bicycle friendly stormwater grates
- changing all existing "No Parking" zones to "No Stopping" zones on both sides of Druitt Place
- changing an existing "Authorised Vehicles Excepted" zone on the northern side of Druitt Place to "No Stopping"
The changes will not affect the footpath, and we will work to minimise any traffic disruptions during installation.
The City will provide residents and businesses with ongoing updates on all cycleway projects and the broader bicycle network.
